Hearne Surname
The
beginnings of our Hearne Family roots in America can be traced to
Lubec, Maine and the families of Hearne and Harris, originally from Ireland. John Harris I and William Hearne I both probably came to America by way of New Brunswick or Nova Scotia.
Lubec is a small town in Washington County, Maine close to the Canadian border. It was settled in 1785, incorporated on June 21, 1811 and named after Lübeck Germany. The town includes the communities of Lubec, North Lubec, South Lubec, and West Lubec. Lubec contains the easternmost point of land in the United States: West Quoddy Head, on which the famous lighthouse of the same name is located. Lubec was once the sardine canning capital of the world.
